Created for SpectorGroup during the COVID-19 pandemic, this series explores a "ground-up" reimagining of urban life. At a time of global stillness, I felt it was the vital moment to ask: "How can we fundamentally reshape New York City’s neighborhoods?" These drawings serve as a conceptual blueprint for an imaginative, resilient urban future.
What if we could walk across the building, from one street to another? There are fewer cars on the streets. We blend indoor and outdoor spaces. Daily life has become more fluid, with our workplace and living space more integrated. We work from home alone, collaborate with colleagues in the office, cook and share food, and find personal time away from the family at the office. We can also invite colleagues to our home garden.
There are many empty storefronts, some covered with plywood, and the streets are not well maintained, inviting messiness. What else could these spaces be used for?
